PALS Simulator VR – Pediatric Emergency Training

Pediatric Emergency VR Simulator is the first VR training application in Azerbaijan designed for pediatric emergency care based on the international PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) protocol. The application prepares doctors, residents, and medical students to act confidently in critical pediatric situations where every second matters.

Realistic training without patient risk

The user puts on a VR headset and enters a virtual intensive care room. The child’s condition changes in real time, medical monitors are active, and clinical decisions must be made under time pressure following PALS algorithms. All actions and response times are recorded, followed by a structured debrief that highlights correct decisions and areas for improvement.

Clinical scenarios covered

The simulator allows repeated practice of key pediatric emergency conditions including cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, heart rhythm disturbances, and coordinated team-based resuscitation. Repetition builds confidence, reduces stress-related errors, and helps transform correct actions into automatic responses.

Local adaptation and clinical accuracy

The project was developed by AzDimension by order of İctimai Səhiyyə və İslahatlar Mərkəzi (İSİM) in close collaboration with faculty members and clinicians of Azerbaijan Medical University. International PALS protocols were adapted to local clinical practice, educational standards, and available medical equipment. The application interface is provided in the Azerbaijani language.

Accessibility and scalability

The simulator runs on a standard computer with a VR headset and does not require expensive mannequins, consumables, or specialized simulation centers. This approach enables large-scale training both in the capital and in regional healthcare facilities while significantly reducing training costs.

Target users

  • Emergency physicians and pediatric specialists

  • Residents and interns

  • Medical university and college students

  • Medical and educational institutions

Future development

Planned updates include an expanded scenario library, additional pediatric age groups, rare and complex clinical cases, and dedicated simulations for obstetrics and neonatology. Multiplayer team training and advanced performance analytics are also in development.

Pediatric Emergency VR Simulator is a modern training solution that enhances medical education today and contributes directly to improved patient safety tomorrow.
